For developing a static website or blog, you should know about the difference between a Static Website And Blog. In short A static website is basically a series of pages that can linked together in a certain way. Static means the pages that user can see on an internet exactly as they are stored on the server. The website can be developed or controlled by CSS and HTML. The site on which you are reading is basically a static website.
Website is hosted in a server that is in your control. It can be free server or it can b hosted on a server that you can purchase. There are many types of servers on which site can be hosted. Always try to avoid free hosting if you are planning long term business or want to make money for life. Making money online with a website is most famous way of income source in these days. Specially Google Adsense program is extremely popular on an Internet.
There are two types of website, A static HTML site and a WordPress site. The difference between them is on an HTML site different software can be used to upload files on a sever and for web development. In an WordPress site remote posting is possible.A blog is basically a special type of website on which There are a series of posts which can be categorizes. Blogs are totally dynamic and the content can be displayed n many different ways.
For developing a blog you can use Famous build in editor “WYSIWYG” and no programming skills or software’s are required to build a blog. A website require a template, HTML and CSS or any type software/editor. On blog Homepage shows the most recent posts (content). This is called dynamically generated content. For doing this on a static site you can add latest content on homepage. WordPress has both facilities of blog and a website. There are a lot of free plugins available that are really helpful in what you would like to do. you can use it to build a more static layout.
Because blogs are free and easy to use so every one can make a blog. Mostly peoples develop blog for their personal information or for any small business. In my views it depends. If you have nothing to invest and want to share with the world only personal information or want to establish a small business then blog is better then a site. But for a setup of large business i prefer website and purchased hosting in your control.
